Speak without your voice.

TapToSpeak is a text-to-speech communication app for patients who temporarily cannot speak after surgery, injury, or intubation.

On February 17, 2026, my wife was in a bicycle accident. She broke her jaw in three places and her dominant wrist. After emergency surgery, her jaw was wired shut and she couldn't hold a pen. She needed to communicate with nurses, doctors, and family — but had no way to do it.

That night, I built TapToSpeak. The next morning, she used it to talk to her care team.

TapToSpeak was built from a real patient's need, by a caregiver who watched the gap between “patient can't speak” and “hospital has a solution” firsthand.

What It Does

Tap to speak

Type a message and tap to speak it aloud — designed for one-handed use.

Medical phrases

Pre-loaded phrases for common hospital needs: pain, medication, water, bathroom, help.

Large touch targets

High-contrast buttons optimized for patients who may be fatigued, medicated, or using their non-dominant hand.

Works offline

Works offline after first load. Premium voices use AI when connected; your device's built-in speech works without internet.

Completely free

No in-app purchases. No subscription. Free for every patient who needs it.
